Your imagination is your preview of life’s coming attractions.

~ Albert Einstein

It’s part of why visualization works. Our thoughts are all translated into images and those images are dress rehearsals for our life. For example, if you continually imagine hardship you are rehearsing hardship. If you imagine ease, fulfillment and joy you are rehearsing it which then gives it a better chance of happening.

When you are thinking about a race and you imagine it being joyful, fulfilling and fun then you are rehearsing these images and feelings ~ marinating yourself in it and basically manifesting it to happen.

I’m pretty sure that you’ve already learned that when you practice something you become better at it. Hummmmm so what if that works for self belief too?

I hear people all the time marinating themselves in self doubt. If you are looking to have much deeper self belief in everything that you do, including athletics, then marinate yourself in self belief. Practice self belief!

Practice believing in yourself just like you would start practicing anything else. Start one step at a time like, I’m going to fully believe in myself for this training session today right now. I’m going to “practice” believing in myself for this training session.

Try it ~ you will be surprised. Remember, the more you practice it the more natural it becomes.

When you think about it it makes total sense doesn’t it ~ if you want to get good at something practice it? As athletes we know this concept deeply in our sports. Now it’s time to apply it to an equally important part of your training ~ your mental game.

World class athletes practice their mental game deliberately and often. Navy Seals practice their mental game intensely during their famous BUDS training. They do it simply because that is how you get better at it. And when you get better at your mental game both your ultimate performance and experience goes up tremendously. Navy Seals can certainly vouch for that.

So how and what do you practice?

There are many techniques, methods and tools that I teach the athletes that I works with. These are the things that they practice in training and in races so they can get really really good at it. However, here is something to get you started in the right direction AND should make a pretty big difference for you. Yes both the Olympic athletes and Navy Seals practice this particular “thing”.

Stay even in emotion

Stay consistent and steady

No yo yo-ing of emotions ~ practice staying even in your emotions throughout your whole training session and or race. This is one of the big keys to awesome performance. Eliminate the ups and downs just focus on staying even.

You will find this to be tremendously more powerful than you think. Simple yet powerful.

Watch recordings you may have of champion Olympic performances and learn from them the stillness of mind and emotion during performance. Now that you know what to look for you will be amazed. If you could watch Navy Seals train (there are some videos on the Navy site) look to see how the graduates of Seals perform with an incredible even-ness of emotion and mind.

Practice it just like you practice your sport!

1st Why don’t all athletes beginner to weekend warrior use these techniques

2nd Where do the mental game techniques originate from that world class athletes use

Why don’t all athletes from beginner to weekend warrior use these techniques. The short answer is because ~

1. They don’t understand how powerful and easy it is to use

2. They are not aware of the fact that ALL top athletes do it

Oh wait, there is one more ~ Courage ~ because most people don’t like to leave their comfort zone and do something that is new even if that new thing can bring them an infinite amount of joy, happiness, fullfillment and results beyond their dreams ~ it’s still unkown and that takes courage!

In our western modern society of athletics most people just focus on physical training which is of course paramount, however, that is only one piece of becoming a great athlete. In the west, we are conditioned through childhood and school that mostly what we need to do to become good at a sport is to physically train and practice. We are not taught how to quiet our mind or train ourselves to access deep self belief in times of self doubt. We are not taught how powerful our mindset is in achieving goals far beyond our expectations. As a matter of fact, many times we are taught the opposite on how to take on limiting beliefs about ourselves. One does need to train well physically, however, to become good at an athletic endeavor and to gain huge inspiration and fulfillment from it you must also train your mind and your soul. The part about the mind and the soul has been lost in our modern life.

Remember, athletics is primal and in order to excel one must approach it from a primal point of view and access the body mind and the soul NOT just the body.

The extraordinary martial artists of the Shaolin Temple and native indigenous warriors of many continents (who’s performance in strength skill and endurance far beyon our western sports) would be shocked at the thought of just training the body and not the mind. They would find it to be very uneven and that one would be missing the most important link in performance. Our modernized western lifestyle has disconnected us away from how it all really works (which is also why people feel much more stress and tension then ever before in their lives) ~ but there is hope as many athletes are now shifting in a big way to ancient wisdom for the answers to extraordinary performance.

Training the mind as well as the body has been around for thousands of years as the true way to extraordinary performance. If you look right below the surface you will find that ALL of the top athletes in their sport use some form of mental game techniques to create their extraordinary performance (& they are all pretty similar).

Why don’t you see or hear much more about it? There are some very simple answers to this?

It’s not mainstream for the public. Most athletes shy away from talking about their meditations and visualizations or other areas because most of the general public (mostly non athletes) do not do it so it seems irrelevant to them as a communication subject. Lately there have been a bunch of exceptions on voicing their mental game techniques, mostly from very cutting edge athletes like: Snowboarder Shawn White, Ironman Mark Allen, Speed Skater Apolo Ohno and so forth. One of the reasons for this new opening up on the mental game is that the world has changed, individuality rules (social media etc.) and global consciousness has become cool.

The media doesn’t talk about it so you won’t hear it. When the media doesn’t ask the questions then the athlete doesn’t answer and, therefore, the public doesn’t hear about it. Most media in sports talk about the same types of subjects. However, if you listen carefully you will find a few commentators in just about every sport that will talk about mental game but not the majority and the majority is what the public hears.

It’s not as easy to explain as training the body. It is much easier to communicate how to train your body but a little more challenging to communicate their mental game techniques.

Where do the mental game techniques originate from that world class athletes use?

I am going to give you the short answer to this because inside of the AOY (Awesomeness Of You) Inner Circle I will be teaching you ALL about this. What they are and exactly where they come from.

Here’s the answer ~ the techniques that world class athletes use and are so ridiculously effective, have been around for thousands and thousands of years! To a certain extent that are primal in a sense. Top athletes are now tapping the wisdom of wise native and indigenous people and of the ancient arts of body mind performance. It’s that simple.

Also, many people like to have the science behind these techniques and our western scientific community has obliged with loads of labs and studies showing the incredible power these simple tools and techniques (that are right in front of our noses) hold for body mind performance. All of the major Universities have some form of ongoing study with continual astonishing results including Stanford, Harvard, Yale, Princeton and so forth.

The bottom line is ~ these things work, they are easy to do, they have been around for thousands of years, they are hugely inspiring AND makes a huge difference in performance. All those things are a recipe for awesomeness ~ for tapping the awesomeness that is inside of YOU!
